Stocky is gone. What should I use for purchase orders now?

Shopify shut Stocky down on August 31, 2026. For purchase orders you can use the inventory tools in Shopify admin, a free or paid inventory app, or have purchase orders built into your own app beside your suppliers and the rest of your back office. If purchase orders are all you need, try a free app first. Export your old Stocky data now: Shopify says read-only access lasts at least 90 days after the shutdown.

What did Shopify say, exactly?

From Shopify's own help center, "Transitioning from Stocky" (checked October 12, 2026):

  • "Stocky is no longer available as of August 31, 2026." It was removed from the Shopify App Store on February 2, 2026, so it can't be reinstalled.
  • "As of August 31, 2026, you can no longer use the Stocky app to manage inventory." Stocky's APIs stopped working the same day, so anything that connects to Stocky needs updating.
  • You have "read-only access to export your data for at least 90 days after that date." That means at least until late November 2026.
  • Your history doesn't move over: old purchase orders and stocktakes "don't automatically move into Shopify".

Vendor blogs disagree on the details, so check the help center page itself before you act.

What did Stocky do, and what's gone?

Stocky handled purchase orders, stock counts, adjustments and some reporting. Shopify says those tasks now happen in the Shopify admin: transfers, purchase orders, adjustments, stock counts and reporting. Shopify POS also supports in-store inventory.

What doesn't carry over: historical purchase orders can't be imported into Shopify. A CSV upload only adds line items to a new draft purchase order. It doesn't bring past statuses, received quantities or supplier links.

What are my options?

By what you need:

You need Use Watch out for
Simple purchase orders and receiving Purchase orders in Shopify admin Per Shopify, you can't email a purchase order from the admin: you download a PDF and send it yourself
Low-stock alerts and reorder prompts Shopify Flow alerts and Shopify's own assistant, Sidekick, which Shopify says can suggest reorders and draft purchase orders or transfers Flow's low-stock alerts need setting up. Check what your plan includes
Free purchase orders and suppliers Stockroom, a free Shopify app by MyWorks (its own help page, July 6, 2026) Its import from Stocky used Stocky's API, which Shopify says stopped working on August 31, 2026. Check how it brings your data in on its own listing
Weighted-average costing, landed costs, or counting and approval workflows A dedicated inventory app. Shopify points to third-party apps for these Check each app's own page and price before you pick. Free ones exist and vendor blogs list them, but we haven't checked their claims
Purchase orders beside suppliers, costs, invoices and your inbox Your own app, with purchase orders as one tool Someone builds it, and you maintain it with an AI assistant

If purchase orders are all you need, start with the first row. It costs nothing extra, and you can move later.

What does a purchase-order tool in your own app look like?

Mine tracks each purchase order from the supplier through production and transit to arrival, with the items, quantities and expected dates, and marks the ones with a problem. I had it built, with AI, in under a day, for our supply chain manager. You can click around a copy with made-up data. Suppliers and product costs sit in the same app, on their own screens: Suppliers and landed cost.

That's my store. It's the right choice when purchase orders are one of several jobs you want in one place. If they're the only job, use the Shopify admin first.

How do I get my old data out of Stocky?

Do this before the read-only window closes (at least 90 days after August 31, 2026, so roughly the end of November):

  1. Export completed purchase order reports as CSV, using Stocky's built-in reports.
  2. Export your stocktake history and historical cost data.
  3. Write down your suppliers by hand or from your own records. Shopify says suppliers can't be exported from Stocky.
  4. Close in-flight purchase orders where you can, and recreate any still open as new purchase orders in the Shopify admin.
  5. Keep the CSVs somewhere you won't lose them. They're your history now.
