Custom app

A custom app is an app you create for your own store and nobody else's, which is what lets software you built read your own data.

Also called: your own app, private app, an app for my store

Your shop's data is not simply open to anything that asks for it. Before your own software can read your own orders, you create an app: yours, installed on your store alone, never listed in anybody's app store and never seen by another merchant.

Creating one is a job your agent can do most of, with Shopify's own command-line tool or a form it walks you through in Shopify's Dev Dashboard. What comes back is a client id and secret and the list of permissions you chose.

What people expect and do not get is a program to install. A custom app is a set of credentials with your name on them.

Something broke

I just did this: <what you clicked or typed, in a few words>
This is what I got: <paste the error here, or drag in a screenshot>

I don't know what it means. Work out what went wrong and fix it. Then tell me in one plain sentence what was wrong and what you changed, and stop.
