Markdown

Markdown is plain text with a few punctuation conventions that turn into headings, lists and bold when something displays it.

Also called: .md files, plain text formatting

A line starting with a hash mark is a heading. Asterisks around a word make it bold. Dashes down the left make a list. That is most of it.

It matters to you because the files that steer your agent are written this way: your notes, your instructions, and the house rules your project keeps in its rules file. Plain text means you can open it in anything, your version history can show exactly which words changed, and nothing is hidden inside formatting you cannot see.

What confuses people at first is that the symbols are not errors, they are the formatting, sitting out in the open.

Paste this first

Something broke

I just did this: <what you clicked or typed, in a few words>
This is what I got: <paste the error here, or drag in a screenshot>

I don't know what it means. Work out what went wrong and fix it. Then tell me in one plain sentence what was wrong and what you changed, and stop.
