Word

Node

Node is the program that lets JavaScript run on your computer instead of inside a web browser.

Also called: Node.js

Browsers have always run JavaScript. Node lets the same language run on your own machine, which is how a web app can sit on your laptop and answer you.

The app needs it to start. If you used the Mac installer, you never meet it: the installer fetches the kit's own copy. With the zip, your agent checks for it first, because the error you get when it is missing does not say the word Node anywhere.

People mix Node up with npm: Node runs your code, npm fetches the outside code your project leans on. Setting up one usually sets up the other at the same time.

Something broke

I just did this: <what you clicked or typed, in a few words>
This is what I got: <paste the error here, or drag in a screenshot>

I don't know what it means. Work out what went wrong and fix it. Then tell me in one plain sentence what was wrong and what you changed, and stop.
