Configuration file
A configuration file is a file of settings that tells a tool how to behave, instead of code that tells the computer what to do.
Also called: config, config file, settings file
Which service to use, what size to ask for, where to look. It sits beside your code, and nothing in it runs.
You will meet one when you put the app online: the kit ships a file describing what your host should create. Written down, it can be read, argued with and repeated, clicked through once, it is none of those.
The line that matters: a configuration file holds settings, never secrets. Real values live in an environment variable.
