Server

A server is a program that sits waiting for requests and answers them, on your laptop or on a rented computer.

Not a machine in a rack somewhere. The same program runs on your laptop while you work on it and on a rented computer once you put it online.

You'll meet the word constantly, because starting your app means starting its server, waiting at a port, and most of the confusing errors early on are that server refusing to start.

People hear server and picture a building. Picture a waiter instead: it takes an order, fetches the thing, brings it back, and stands there ready for the next one.

Something broke

I just did this: <what you clicked or typed, in a few words>
This is what I got: <paste the error here, or drag in a screenshot>

I don't know what it means. Work out what went wrong and fix it. Then tell me in one plain sentence what was wrong and what you changed, and stop.
